The 17th season of “America’s Got Talent” is in full swing, with five audition episodes having aired since May 31. Instead of moving right on to the sixth set of hopefuls, the AGT team paused on July 5 to give viewers a look back at some of the best tryouts from the last six years. During the first ever Golden Buzzer special, entitled “Simon’s Favorite Golden Buzzers,” judge Simon Cowell sat down with host Terry Crews to present a two-hour countdown of his personal picks for the 15 greatest moments involving the coveted honor.
The Golden Buzzer was first incorporated into AGT’s ninth season, which aired in 2014. The show’s current format allows it to be used only five times per season (once by the host and once each by the four judges) to lock in quarterfinal placements for particularly outstanding auditioners. 12 of the 59 acts who have earned the honor have...

“My hands are still shaking and my heart is racing a hundred miles an hour,” Heidi Klum proclaimed just moments after hitting her “America’s Got Talent” Golden Buzzer in the third episode for soul singer Cristina Rae. The popular German judge admitted she “didn’t even want” to push her Golden Buzzer so soon in the audition process because there were still “so many more days” left to go in the competition. (Watch the video interview above.) Luckily Heidi pressed the button when she did, because she soon fell ill and had to be temporarily replaced on the panel by Eric Stonestreet.

A couple weeks ago on episode 4 of the current 16th season of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” the show opened with 18-year-old twin brothers, Trent and Colton Edwards, contemporary dancers with flair to spare who are based in Pittsburgh. They explained that they only took up dancing three years ago. However, they also added that they had musical theater experience, which they said provided the equivalent of Tsa PreCheck when it came to taking on dance. Cute, huh?
The good-looking twosome instantly charmed the judges with their talkative personalities as cheeky Colton confessed that he was the evil twin of the two. Their “Sytycd” performance (see clip above) was quite a showstopper and even caused judge Mary Murphy to let loose with one of her sonic shrieks of glee. For the current cycle, which debuted May 28 on NBC, the reality TV show welcomed Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough alongside returning judges Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel. The ladies replace longtime panelists Heidi Klum and Mel B, who both opted not to return following the winter’s popular “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” spinoff series. Union and Hough are now the 10th and 11th judges to appear on “Agt” — see the full list in our photo gallery below.

Sal Valentinetti only made it to fifth place on season 11 of “America’s Got Talent.” But the old fashioned crooner has made a name for himself since then, with sell-out concerts across the country. He returned to compete on the fifth episode of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” He had the whole crowd clapping along to his cover of Bobby Darin‘s signature tune “Mack the Knife.” Watch his swinging performance of this song in the video above.
Back in 2016, Sal got the Golden Buzzer from Heidi Klum for his heartfelt cover of another 1960s hit, the Frank Sinatra classic “My Way.” Although he is only 23, Sal has an old soul and loves singing the standards. He looks like a big band singer in his white tuxedo.
