The creator of The Wheel of Time is promising some unprecedented television when the adaptation of Robert Jordan’s fantasy series returns to Prime Video soon for a third season.
“The first 15 minutes of Season 3 is one of the most bonkers set pieces I’ve ever seen on television,” said executive producer Rafe Judkins, who together with stars Rosamund Pike and Daniel Henney, costume designer Sharon Gilham and make-up/hair designer Davina Lamont, sat down for a chat Tuesday at the Deadline Studio at Prime Experience. “I was just watching it this week and it is absolutely bananas what our team pulled off … just a bunch of women in their 40s and 50s shredding each other, and it is wonderful to behold.”

After over a year of waiting, The Wheel of Time is back.
The first episodes were all over the place quality-wise, with the story veering off in multiple directions. Some good, some bad
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 1 saw all of our lead characters separated, with the show also becoming disjointed at times.
The series never shied away from showing off its technical prowess, but the premiere episode relied too heavily on fancy camerawork, and too little on the rich plot that The Wheel of Time Season 1 finale left them with.
It's been a long time since The Wheel of Time Season 1 Episode 8, so we are grateful that the episode started with a lengthy recap, as almost two years is a long time to wait.
The first episode contained a major shift in who could be considered the lead character.

Summer’s almost over, which means the start of the traditional TV season. And while the ongoing Hollywood double strike delayed production for scripted originals across the industry, there’s still an avalanche of new and returning shows coming to broadcast, cable and streaming services this fall.
While we’ll have to wait longer for the return of broadcast staples like the “One Chicago” franchise, “Young Sheldon” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” networks are planning to lean on banked originals (like NBC’s “Found” and “The Irrational”), unscripted staples like NBC’s “The Voice” (with new judge Reba McEntire) and “Dancing With the Stars” returning to ABC, international acquisitions (“Sullivan’s Crossing” on The CW) and even borrowing buzzworthy shows from sibling cable networks (“Yellowstone” airing on CBS). Programming on cable and streaming services has not been as impacted by the production stoppage yet, with plenty of comedy (Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot), drama...

The dangers of the quest unfolding in The Wheel of Time aren’t just about defeating the Dark One; there’s also the question of whether the Dragon Reborn will be a champion for good or evil. Similarly, the others in Rand Al’Thor’s life must choose their path or have it chosen for them. Several of those who portray these other destiny-driven characters on the show spoke with us about the fate that steers their lives in season 2.
Perhaps few characters felt the battle between good and evil within themselves more than Mat Cauthon, portrayed in season 2 by Dónal Finn. Having been corrupted by the tainted dagger he acquired in Shadar Logoth, Mat now has some decisions to make during his recovery. “He has to turn inward and get reflective and be introspective about the behaviors...

Prime Video released the official key art from the second season of ‘The Wheel of Time’. Based on the best-selling Robert Jordan fantasy series The Wheel of Time, Rand al’Thor learns he is The Dragon Reborn – a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. Desperate to protect him from the Dark One, an army of powerful women must reckon with his burgeoning power and encroaching madness.
The Wheel of Time turns, and the Last Battle approaches. Though Rand thought he destroyed the Dark One, evil is not gone from the world. In Season Two, threats new and very old seek out the young friends from the Two Rivers, now scattered over the world. The woman who found and guided them is now powerless to help, and so they must find other sources of strength. In each other, or themselves. In the Light… or the Dark.

Prime Video’s panel for The Wheel of Time held on October 7, 2022 at the New York Comic Con featured plenty of interesting tidbits on season two. Showrunner Rafe Judkins joined cast members Marcus Rutherford (“Perrin Aybara”), Madeleine Madden (“Egwene Al’Vere”), Daniel Henney (“Lan Mandragoran”), Dónal Finn (“Mat Cauthon”), and Ceara Coveney (“Elayne Trakand”) on stage at Javits Center to share some of what’s in store for the highly anticipated new season.
Judkins said season two will include a dive into the Seanchan world and will take the story through the end of Robert Jordan’s third book in The Wheel of Time series. Key characters will be going on journeys on their own, rather than the group dynamics we saw in season one. Judkins also promised that after the hard work of setting up this world in the first season, season two will allow viewers to spend more...

The Wheel of Time has added a Wise One to its ranks: Ayoola Smart, whose previous TV credits include Killing Eve (as Kenny Stowton’s onetime flame Audrey), has joined Season 2 of the epic Prime Video adaptation in the recurring role of Aviendha.
An Aiel Maiden of the Spear, Aviendha in Wheel of Time lore is a Wise One of the Nine Valleys sept, and one of the three lovers that Rand al’Thor takes (though we of course will see if the TV series offers a new spin on the heroine).

This article contains spoilers for The Wheel of Time.
Although the first season of The Wheel of Time departed in many ways from The Eye of the World, the Robert Jordan novel upon which it is based, the elements it included and left out give us some clues as to where the series might be headed in its already renewed second season. Despite proving that its willing to change the plot quite drastically, spoiler-free guesses can be made about what might show up from the books given the way showrunner Rafe Judkins and his writers have made their decisions so far.
A Love Interest for Rand
The Wheel of Time made slightly more out of the romantic feelings between Rand and Egwene in season one than what appeared in the books, and that’s okay. The dramatic tension provided a way in the finale to illustrate Rand’s ability to...
