Mike Flanagan’s Netflix output has consistently been the best horror content on the platform. His 2018 family drama ghost story series The Haunting of Hill House made a huge impression at the time, establishing Flanagan as a must-watch creative in TV as well as film. The popularity of Hill House ended up spawning a franchise, of sorts.
Part of the appeal was how well it stuck the landing for such an emotional rollercoaster of a show. But according to the creator himself, that oddly uplifting ending almost didn’t happen at all.
Showrunner Mike Flanagan made a notable change to the intended ending of ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ (L-r): McKenna Grace, Lulu Wilson, Henry Thomas, Julian Hillard, Paxton Singleton, Violet Mcgraw, and Carla Gugino in ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ | Steve Dietl/Netflix
The Haunting of Hill House was a loose adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel of the same name.

"Go get my grandson, bring him home!" 1091 Pictures has released an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Alice Fades Away, set right after the end of World War II. The film is the feature directorial debut of Ryan Bliss and arrives on VOD in February. On the run, Alice takes refuge on her uncle’s farm, now home to WWII survivors. But when a ruthless and unpredictable man arrives searching for her son, the last link to the family dynasty, they must fight back to make it out alive. Bolstered by a star making performance from Ashley Shelton and strong supporting work from veteran actors William Sadler and Blanche Baker, the film is described as a "thrilling and timely tale of a woman driven to the edge and forced to fight back." These kind of stories are becoming a dime a dozen, and unfortunately this one just doesn't look that good.

This Supernatural review contains spoilers.
Supernatural Season 15 Episode 16
Four episodes till the end.
“Drag Me Away (From You) is split between modern day Sam and Dean and young Sam and Dean, as they explore the scene of an old hunt that doesn’t seem finished.
This story happens to feature a hotel room with wallpaper more heinous than any creature from hell — okay maybe a little exaggeration. But think first of the many, many hotel rooms the talented production design folks at Supernatural have designed. All the wacky decor and wallpapers — all culminating in the loudest, most obnoxious wallpaper and rug combo I think TV might have ever seen. How does anyone sleep in that room? Nevermind the creature, the clashing patterns alone would keep most up at night.
Later that horrifying carpet became a subtle clue that Dean wasn’t actually in the cannery, when the Baba Yaga makes him hallucinate being there.

“The Haunting of Hill House” haunted us indeed when it dropped all its 10 episodes on Netflix on October 12 and gave us what was arguably one of 2018’s best shows. With the 76th Golden Globe Awards not too far away, “Hill House” could already begin to rack up some well-deserved hardware. The question is: will it haunt the Hollywood Foreign Press Association enough to pick up a Best Drama Series nomination?

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “The Haunting of Hill House,” streaming now on Netflix.
When telling a genre story, writer/director Mike Flanagan has one rule: play with perspective.
The man behind “Hush,” “Absentia,” “Gerald’s Game” and the upcoming “Shining” sequel “Doctor Sleep” has become accustomed to having to “constantly escalate tension” while simultaneously offering reveals to the characters and the audience. But for his 10-episode adaptation of “The Haunting of Hill House,” he took playing with perspective even farther.
“I can shamelessly say it was something I learned watching the first season of ‘Lost,'” Flanagan tells Variety. “I loved the way that it put me in one specific character’s shoes for an episode and then handed off. It created this anticipation for me because I said, ‘I can’t wait until I get to explore this character.”

Taking a much-loved work of art like Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House and attempting to make it better than the original is a daring task. Succeeding is nothing short of a miracle.
Creator Mike Flanagan takes the basics of Jackson's novel and uses its foundation for the building blocks of a familiar tale that is more terrifying than its initial telling because he binds the characters together in a more meaningful way.
Instead of a team of scientists investigating paranormal activities, we're introduced to this Hill House when the Crain family moves in filling the haunted manse with love and hope only to see its utter destruction.
Hugh Crain (Henry Thomas/Timothy Hutton) and his wife, Olivia (Carla Gugino) have a dream that includes a lot of renovation on the way to their forever house. The restoration of Hill House, a sprawling estate with a questionable history,...

Creepy kid alert.
In the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming horror series “Haunting of Hill House,” children living at Hill House appear to have knowledge of a very grim future, one where your “heart breaks right in half” and you “can’t feel anything happy.”
You’ll have to watch the trailer (above) yourself for the rest because we are already getting nightmares. Suffice it to say, it looks like the families living at Hill House will have a lot of demons to deal with as they grow up.
