Director Luke Sparke has announced the casting for his upcoming sci-fi horror feature Primitive War, based on the novel by Ethan Pettus. Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Piven has been given the lead role, alongside Tricia Helfer, SAG Award Nominee Ryan Kwanten and Nick Wechsler. Together, they’ll be playing US soldiers in 1968 who have been sent to a remote region of Vietnam. They’re an elite recon unit known as Vulture Squad and they only get handed the toughest assignments. All they know is a Green Beret platoon has gone missing in the area, and they’ve been sent to investigate and possibly retrieve them. What they don’t expect, but who possibly could…was that this was the region of 1968 Vietnam that had dinosaurs in it. Well, no wonder we lost. Primitive War will also star Anthony Ingruber, Aaron Glenane, Carlos Sanson Jr

While the Bump TV series has already been renewed for third and fourth seasons in Australia, there's no guarantee that The CW will air the episodes. The network's new management is focusing on making The CW profitable but airing low-cost and acquired programming. A few low-rated acquired series have already been pulled this summer. It didn’t take long after watching Jub Clerc’s Sweet As to see the comparison point my mind went to first (The Breakfast Club) was hardly an original thought. It’s an archetypal coming-of-age story for a reason. You see a mixed-bag group of troubled teens forced to confront their hardships during a mandated supervised excursion and allusions to John Hughes’ classic aren’t far behind. Whereas he could get away with making that group consist of white suburban kids with differing degrees of entitlement and affluence, however, today’s landscape needs a bit more complexity beyond chip-on-your-shoulder bullying. By setting their film in the Australian Outback, Clerc and co-writer Steve Rodgers talk about race, poverty, and exploitation atop that superficial baseline. Because these kids aren’t confronting privilege. They’re struggling to survive.
There’s a reason Murra (Shantae Barnes-Cowan) comes home and pushes her cabinet in front of her room’s door.

This week, actors such as Simon Baker, Bryan Brown and Marta Dusseldorp were in Canberra. Their aim was to convince parliament to introduce rules requiring streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ to spend 20 per cent of their local revenue on new Australian drama, documentary and children’s content.
Many of Australia’s film and television organisations see local content rules as a key way of tackling significant changes that have disrupted business norms and revenue streams. The Federal Government has indicated it supports quotas for some services at least.
Requirements on global services seem an easy answer — and who doesn’t want more Australian TV? — but this call ignores complex realities of how the TV business and its funding have changed.
Before exploring the key differences of 21st century television, let’s consider why pursuing content requirements on streaming services is a high risk, low reward campaign.

Carlos Sanson Jnr plays the baby’s father, with Catalina Palma, Safia Arain, Paula Garcia, Ioane Saula, Peter Thurnwald and Ricardo Scheihing Vasquez as school friends and family members.
Development on the second series is currently underway with filming expected to commence later this year. Confirmed cast will be announced at a later date.
