Former President Donald Trump supporters in the House of Representatives are pushing a bill to rename Dulles Airport outside of Washington, D.C., after the former president.
On April 2, a group of Trump supporters launched the effort to rename this airport to express admiration for the Republican 2024 presidential candidate.
The airport is named after John Foster Dulles, the secretary of state in the 1950s and during Dwight D. Eisenhower’s presidency.
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pennsylvania), the Republican Party’s chief deputy whip in the House, stated that he was introducing legislation to change the name of the airport since Trump was “the best president of” his “lifetime.”
“As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil,” Reschenthaler stated.
“Freedom,” he wrote in an X post on April 2. “Prosperity.

San Francisco, April 29 (Ians) A group of US lawmakers have proposed a bill to stop artificial intelligence (AI)-driven autonomous systems from single-handedly launching nuclear weapons, as fears arise on the potential threat of AI taking a decision on its own.
Senator Edward Markey (D-ma) and Representatives Ted Lieu (D-ca), Don Beyer (D-va), and Ken Buck (R-Co) have introduced the ‘Block Nuclear Launch by Autonomous AI Act’ in the US, reports The Verge.
The bill would “prohibit the use of Federal funds to launch a nuclear weapon using an autonomous weapons system that is not subject to meaningful human control”.
“In all cases, the US will maintain a human ain the loop’ for all actions critical to informing and executing decisions by the President to initiate and terminate nuclear weapon employment,” read the bill.

After Donald Trump called for the “termination” of the Constitution, falsely claiming there was “Massive & Widespread Fraud & Deception” in the 2020 election, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) trolled Republican Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). “Sounds like the Constitution doesn’t matter much to your boss,” he wrote in a tweet that quoted McCarthy saying Republicans will “read every single word of the Constitution aloud” on the House floor when they regain their majority next year.
But Swalwell wasn’t alone. A number of Democrats spoke out over the weekend against the former...

Republicans are learning the hard way that supporting a president who inspires a violent attempt to overthrow the government has consequences.
There are the obvious ones, like the fracturing of the foundation of representative democracy, the adrenaline shot to future right-wing extremist terror, and the growing specter of a new civil war. This isn’t what Republican members of the House of Representatives are concerned about, though. Instead, they’re whining that they’re being asked to pass through metal detectors as they enter the Capitol.
Louie Gohmert just walked around the magnetometer.

Vice President Mike Pence, accompanied by Republican senators including Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-sc), visited two detention facilities near the U.S.-Mexico border where migrants were being held on Friday. Pence visited one center in Donna, Tex. where men were being held in addition to a McAllen facility where children were detained.
The account from pool reporter Josh Dawsey of the Washington Post, who accompanied Pence into the facility in Donna, is chilling:
After negotiating with the VP’s office, pool was taken into an outdoor portal at the McAllen Border Station around 5pm,...

The government has been operating under a partial shutdown since December 21st, depriving 800,000 federal employees of their entire paychecks. Meanwhile, hundreds of senior Trump appointees are getting $10,000 raises, the Washington Post reported on Friday.
This was an accident. Maybe. In 2013, Congress passed a law capping the salaries of federal executives. The law has been renewed every year, but it wasn’t in 2018 because of the shutdown. The pay freeze will expire unless action is taken by Saturday. This will not happen, and so starting next week, everyone from cabinet secretaries...
