Ridley Scott's original "Blade Runner" will always continue to be the gold standard of dreary, cyberpunk sci-fi. Although it took time for it to be as highly regarded as it is today, Scott's dystopian futuristic noir is a masterpiece that has yet to be equalled, even if Denis Villaneuve's startling sequel, "Blade Runner 2049," came awfully close.
It's rare to be remembered for even one landmark science fiction film that exists on the same level that "Blade Runner" occupies, let alone be responsible for two revered classics. Yet, that's exactly what Scott was able to accomplish with "Alien." Within a span of three years from 1979 to 1982, Scott spawned both properties and eventually spun H.R. Giger's indelible Xenomorph design into a successful franchise.
Over time, it's been revealed that "Alien" and "Blade Runner" actually exist within the same universe. In a perfect world, Scott would have been able to...

Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez is directing the next installment in the Alien franchise, which will notably be the first Alien movie released by Disney.
Disney has just dated Alvarez’s Alien for August 16, 2024. The project doesn’t yet have an official title, but we’ve been told it’s set to be a gritty and contained horror movie.
Alvarez is directing the brand new Alien movie for Ridley Scott and 20th Century Studios, with Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy, Pacific Rim Uprising) leading the cast. Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu also star.
The project is described as “an original standalone feature.”
THR recently previewed, “Plot details are being kept in a cryochamber, but as opposed to the other movies which focused on adults in corporate, militaristic and scientific roles, this now-ninth installment of the franchise will focus on a group of young people.

Clayton Cardenas as Angel Reyes in ‘Mayans Mc’ season 5 episode 2 (Photo by Prashant Gupta/FX)
FX’s Mayans M.C. season five episode one ended with Creeper being repeatedly stabbed in prison. Episode two, “Lord Help My Poor Soul,” opens with Santo Padre meeting to discuss the attack. Angel (Clayton Cardenas) knows half the guards belong to Iron War, and Gilly (Vincent Vargas) believes the attack happened right after he finished visiting with Creeper.
They don’t know Creeper’s condition, but the attack was brutal.
Kate (Stella Maeve) visits Creeper (Joseph Raymond Lucero) at the hospital, where he’s handcuffed and hooked up to machines. He’s conscious and orders her to leave, and she wants to put him in protective custody. He refuses, and Kate confesses she wishes she’d never accepted this assignment. They toss insults at each other, and finally, Creeper cuts to the chase. If she wants to help him,...

David Alvarez was going to be a pediatrician.
Then, three and a half years into his undergrad, he had to tell his parents he was going to drop out of school.
But the news came with a little bit of consolation: Univision had taken notice of Alvarez’s booming social media presence, and wanted to sign him for channel management.
“[My parents] were like, ‘Oh, well, in that case, they see something for sure. You should definitely do it,'” Alvarez says.
Family is everything to Alvarez, and having his parents’ official blessing was the push he needed to make content his career.

The biggest strength of Crater has to be its final ten minutes, which feel like savoring a great dessert after what was a decent meal at best. To a great extent, it feels like a silly attempt at a Stranger Things recreation in a different setting, especially the way the five main characters are written. Sure, kids are all the same, but these five are an awful lot like Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max. There is no Eleven, though, and no demogorgon mind flayer stuff, either. For a movie that is set entirely on the moon, the villains here are rather wordly: class struggle, capitalism, and the exploitation of the poor.
But seamlessly integrating all these in the narrative of a Disney movie, whose target audience is mainly kids and teenagers, is a herculean task. And the movie couldn’t exactly pull off Oscar Martinez explaining “what does surplus...

Within the first four minutes of Disney+ Original film “Crater,” we already have a cavalcade of movie tropes to contend with: dead parents, spaceships, and a 72-hour ticking clock for one newly-orphaned tween to say farewell to his friend group. At least we know Disney hasn’t shied away from its classic storylines.
Part “Guardians of the Galaxy” and part “Goonies” with a dash of “Outer Banks,” “Crater” centers on Caleb Channing (a well-cast Isaiah Russell-Bailey), who was raised on a lunar mining colony by his single dad (Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi). After the death of his father, Caleb becomes a ward of the state, poised to reap the “death benefits” from his father’s work contract with the colony. As part of said benefits, Caleb is supposed to be put in a cryosleep and transported to distant planet Omega, which takes 75 years to reach.

The Evil Dead franchise needs no introduction, given its long and storied history in the entertainment industry. To date, there are five Evil Dead movies so far including the original trilogy from Sam Raimi, Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead reboot, and of course, Lee Cronin‘s Evil Dead Rise. The franchise is popularly known for its gonzo mix of horror and comedy – two combined elements that defined Raimi’s works in the first place. The last two movies, however, see Alvarez and Cronin from their respective Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise...

The Evil Dead series might be the greatest argument against literacy the movies have ever produced. Each film drops its protagonists into a series of bloody horrors that could have easily been avoided had they just never opened a book. The latest entry, Evil Dead Rise, adds vinyl to the list of cursed physical media, but switches out the franchise’s remote cabin in the woods for a high-rise apartment building. The changes mesh well with the franchise’s simple formula, reinvigorating a series that has lasted much longer than Michiganders Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell probably expected 40 years ago.
Raimi and Campbell serve as executive producers for Evil Dead Rise, similar to their roles with Fede Alvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead remake. But where Alvarez’s film seemed intent on proving that it could be the most deadly serious horror movie ever, in its best moments, Evil Dead Rise captures...

Noah Hawley’s FX series Alien has found one of its leads in Sydney Chandler, the network has confirmed.
Back at January’s TCA, FX boss John Landgraf said that the Fargo creator was in pre-production on Alien with an eye on starting production this year. The series reportedly takes place before the days of Sigourney Weaver’s alien fighter Ripley. It’s the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth, 70 years from current day.
Alien brings Chandler back to work at FX, the actress having made her television debut in the network’s series Pistol from director and executive producer Danny Boyle. That six-episode series, which premieres May 31 exclusively on Hulu, centers around the legendary Sex Pistols. Chandler portrays singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.
Most recently, Chandler starred in Olivia Wilde’s New Line movie, Don’t Worry Darling, opposite Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine,...

Sigourney Weaver will never reprise her role as 'Alien' character Ellen Ripley. The 73-year-old actress first portrayed the character 44 years ago in Sir Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 sci-fi horror movie, but she insists that ship has now "sailed". She told Total Film magazine: "There are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role. And there was an ‘Alien’ [film] that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed. "I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I put in my time in space!"Weaver went on to star as Ripley in 1986 movie 'Aliens', 'Alien 3' in 1992, and 1997's 'Alien: Resurrection'. Blomkamp previously scripted an 'Alien' film at 20th Century Fox, but it didn't get off the ground. Last month, it was revealed the next instalment...

Evil Dead Rise, the fifth installment of the horror series, opened in second place in the domestic box office this past weekend, pulling in an impressive $23.5 million, and $40 million worldwide, which would suggest there’s more boom left in the franchise boomstick.
And though writer/director Lee Cronin says he “was never trying to bait for sequels,” he nonetheless sets up a few story ideas should he return to the world of deadites and Necronomicon created in 1981 by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell, who starred as Ashley J. Williams.

Fans of Mayans Mc should brace themselves for an explosive season 5, as the show ramps up towards its climactic finale. Last season was marked by significant chaos and upheaval, and things between Ez Reyes (Jd Pardo) and his brother, Angel Reyes (Clayton Cardenas), are about to get even more riveting.
With Ez now sitting at the head of the table after taking the reins from Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera), Mayans Mc star Sarah Bolger believes a scene from season 4 marked a “palpable change in the tone of show” as we head into season 5.

London, April 2 (Ians) Manchester City kept their calm after falling behind, to roar back and beat Liverpool 4-1 in a result that very much keeps them in the race for the Premier League title.
Although Mohamed Salah poached a goal for Liverpool in the 17th minute, Julian Alvarez, who was in the side for injured Erling Haaland, levelled 10 minutes later and then helped Riyad Mahrez set up Kevin de Bruyne to put City ahead in the first minute of the second half.
Ilkay Gundogan then put the result beyond doubt when he made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute after Alvarez’s shot had been blocked and the impressive Jack Grealish got the goal he deserved in the 74th minute after exchanging passes with De Bruyne.
“When we conceded the goal, we were playing really well. Of course, they are always a threat in the transitions, but we played really well in all departments.

There are certain success stories in the history of cinema that serve to inspire filmmakers for generations to come. Existing right alongside Kevin Smith's low-budget comedy "Clerks" and Robert Rodriguez's "El Mariachi," there is Sam Raimi's all-time horror classic "The Evil Dead," which was made on a shoestring budget with his pals, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell, in the early '80s. It ultimately found success despite its lack of resources, having earned more than $29 million in ticket sales to date. Not bad for a movie that was made for a mere $375,000.
Be that as it may, even today, the 1981 film is probably closer to a cult classic than it is a bonafide mainstream hit. Yes, horror...

It ultimately found success despite its lack of resources, having earned more than $29 million in ticket sales to date. Not bad for a movie that was made for a mere $375,000.

Manchester (England), March 17 (Ians) Premier League club Manchester City has announced that striker Julian Álvarez has signed a one-year extension to his existing contract.
The striker, who played a starring role as Argentina won the 2022 World Cup in December, will remain at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2028. He had initially signed a five-year contract in 2022.
“I have been really pleased with my first season here, but I have plenty more I can do. I know I can be better, and City offer me everything I need to fulfil my potential,” Alvarez said.
“This is a club that looks after its players, and I have felt so supported throughout my time here. I am now focused on getting better and helping City win trophies,” he added.
Alvarez moved to Manchester last July, joining from River Plate where he forged a reputation as a deadly goalscorer. He managed 54 goals and...

Said building — aptly described by one holdout resident as a “condemned dump” — just happens to have been built on the site of a long-closed bank that evidently shuttered before certain mystical merchandise could be retrieved from its vault.
