Liev Schreiber urged a crowd of D.C. lawmakers, ambassadors and media figures for continued support for Ukrainians as the one-year anniversary nears of Russia’s attempted invasion.
The occasion was UnSanctioned, an event at the French ambassador’s residence that brought together those who have been sanctioned by Vladimir Putin’s regime to support the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
The list, as Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova noted, is long. The sanctioned guests at the Friday evening event included Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, State Department Spokesman Ned Price, Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-pa), Rep. Rick Larsen (D-wa), Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Co), Rep. Rick Larsen (D-wa), Rep. Susan Wild (D-pa), Susan Glasser, Bianna Golodryga and Craig Kennedy.

The Jan. 6 committee revealed texts on Tuesday from former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale blaming Trump for the death of a protester on Jan. 6.
In a text exchange between Parscale and Donald Trump’s national campaign spokesperson, Katrina Pearson, Parscale laments that a woman is dead. When Pearson tells him, “You do realize this was going to happen,” Parscale responds, “Yeah if I was Trump and knew my rhetoric killed someone.” Parscale continues, “This is about Trump pushing for uncertainty in our country … A sitting president asking for civil war...

Two prominent Republicans, Sen. Mitt Romney and Rep. Liz Cheney, are calling out members of their own party for speaking at America First Political Action Conference (Afpac), a white nationalist answer to the Conservative Political Action Conference (Cpac).
“[Reps.] Marjorie Taylor Greene and [Paul] Gosar, I don’t know them,” Romney said on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday. “But I’m reminded of the old line from Butch Cassidy where one character says, ‘Morons, I have morons on my team.’ I think anybody who would sit down with white nationalists...

Donald Trump phoned in his support for Glenn Youngkin on Monday night.
Literally.
After teasing a rally appearance on the eve of the Virginia gubernatorial election, the former president instead made a brief, bizarre call into a closed-press “tele-rally” for Youngkin, who did not appear at the rally himself.
“He’s a great man, he’s a wonderful guy, he will do a job like nobody can do,” Trump reportedly said on the call. “I have no doubt about it.”
Trump added that Youngkin has a “big, giant, beautiful base,...

Fayetteville, N.C. — An old man ranting into the night.
That’s how it looked out on the windswept patch of tarmac at the Fayetteville Regional Airport on Saturday night, the venue for President Trump’s latest rally. I had left the press pen behind the TV camera risers — you know, the spot Trump points to during the “fake news! Fake news!” portion of his stump speech — to stretch my legs and warm my bones. The temperatures at the airport had sunk into the 50s and I’d forgotten to bring a coat.

President Trump began his campaign rally in Fayetteville, N.C., on Saturday by speaking about his intent to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg this week. Then, as Trump rallies often do, things got weird.
As the president reveled in the chants of “Fill that seat!” coming from the crowd, Trump complained about how the media would react to his decision to move forward with a nomination next week. Trump also told rallygoers that his choice will be a woman.
“I hope you hear [the chant] back home.

Martin Baron, the executive editor of The Washington Post, said that President Donald Trump’s latest attack on the publication was a “repugnant attempt to intimidate and harass” its staff.
His comment was in response to a series of tweets that Trump posted on Thursday, attacking The Post over a report that he asked Attorney General William Barr to hold a news conference to say that he broke no laws in his July 25 call with the president of Ukraine, but Barr declined to do so.
In three tweets, Trump attacked the Post as “degenerate” and accused the publication of making it up. He also called out its reporters specifically, calling them “lowlife reporters.”
The Amazon Washington Post and three lowlife reporters, Matt Zapotosky, Josh Dawsey, and Carol Leonnig, wrote another Fake News story, without any sources (pure fiction), about Bill Barr & myself. We both deny this story, which they knew before they wrote it.

In a combative interview on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Acting Director of Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cuccinelli came across as hard-hearted as President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
While the viral footage played showing Vice President Mike Pence‘s visit earlier this week to a border detention facility in McAllen, Texas, where nearly 400 men were packed into a fenced-in cage, host Jon Karl read from Josh Dawsey’s Washington Post pool report describing the horrendous conditions the detainees were forced to endure.

Vice President Mike Pence, accompanied by Republican senators including Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-sc), visited two detention facilities near the U.S.-Mexico border where migrants were being held on Friday. Pence visited one center in Donna, Tex. where men were being held in addition to a McAllen facility where children were detained.
The account from pool reporter Josh Dawsey of the Washington Post, who accompanied Pence into the facility in Donna, is chilling:
After negotiating with the VP’s office, pool was taken into an outdoor portal at the McAllen Border Station around 5pm,...

Pointing to your head and saying “Nobody can quite figure it out” is a set-up that only the sturdiest of sitcom writers could resist, and President Donald Trump made it all the more tempting for wisecracking journalists by framing the comment around irresistible “deadline” bait.
Trump’s retweet-friendly comment came at today’s press conference (see video below) in response to Reuters correspondent Jeff Mason’s question, “What is your deadline, if you have one, for China to make progress on trade before you impose the tariffs on the other $325 billion in goods?”
After some evading – and Mason’s repeat of the question – Trump said, “No, I have no deadline.” Then, pointing to his own head, the president continued, “My deadline is what’s up here. We’ll figure out the deadline. Nobody can quite figure it out.”
The “deadline” comment hit too close to home for journos to resist.

On Sunday, Attorney General William Barr released a four-page letter summarizing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on his investigation into the Trump campaign’s relationship with Russia. While Barr writes that Mueller found no evidence of collusion, the document’s language is ambiguous and offers little clarity on what exactly the special counsel discovered. It does not explain why Mueller chose to defer to Barr on the issue of obstruction of justice. It’s also curious that it barely took Barr 48 hours to offer such definitive conclusions regarding such...

The New York Times reported on Thursday that Omarosa Manigault Newman may have as many as 200 recordings that she put secretly together during her time working for the Trump White House and campaign.
“Mr. Trump’s aides have been concerned that they will make appearances on other tapes, of which Ms. Manigault Newman is believed to have as many as 200,” Maggie Haberman and Kenneth Vogel wrote in a summary of Manigault Newman’s latest reveal that the president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, offered her a paid gig after she was fired in exchange for her silence.

Washington — Omarosa Manigault Newman claims in her upcoming book that President Donald Trump is a “racist.” She cites three unnamed sources who say that he has been caught on mic on the set of “The Apprentice” using the “N-word,” but the White House quickly pushed back on her tome and the publicity surrounding it.
“Instead of telling the truth about all the good President Trump and his administration are doing to make America safe and prosperous, this book is riddled with lies and false accusations,” said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “It’s sad that a disgruntled former White House employee is trying to profit off these false attacks, and even worse that the media would now give her a platform, after not taking her seriously when she had only positive things to say about the President during her time in the administration.”

Though it’s been a while since President Trump has given a substantial interview to an American media outlet beyond Fox News, on Wednesday, he decided to sit down for an exclusive with British tabloid The Sun. In the interview, Trump attacked British Prime Minster Theresa May, right as the prime minister was welcoming the president to the United Kingdom. “May has wrecked Brexit.. Us deal is off!” the cover read.
This is absolutely mad. The Sun has an exclusive interview with Trump who is dumping on Theresa May. pic.

CNN’s Jim Acosta was slammed by Trump voters while attempting to conduct live coverage of the president’s rally in Columbia, South Carolina on Monday. But once the cameras were turned off, many voters greeted Acosta warmly.
Acosta posed for a number of selfies and one man who chanted “CNN Sucks” at one point, asked the CNN White House correspondent for an autograph and ultimately pled with Acosta for an on-air shout-out in the briefing room.
“Man who just repeatedly shouted “Go home Jim!” and “CNN sucks!”came over, had a pleasant debate with @Acosta and asked him for a shoutout at the next press briefing,” reported the Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey. “Didn’t you just shout for me to go home? What do you really want?” @Acosta says. “A little of both!” he says.”

Washington — This year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was more subdued than in years past, but stirring in its own way for its demonstration of media solidarity in the face of presidential push-back.
This year, Donald Trump skipped the event that annually mixes media, politics and celebrity.
Michelle Wolf, soon-to-be host of her own weekly Netflix series, was the featured entertainer, but she was a contrast to previous talent in that she isn’t known as a purely political humorist. Netflix even debuted a new promo for the show, called “The Break.” Prior to the dinner, she told CBS News it was “cowardly” of Trump not to attend.
After a Stephen Colbert satiric cartoon, Margaret Talev, president of the Whca, welcomed the attendees, and paid respect to President George H.W. Bush. The next attraction was a video of Paul Ryan that started out light-hearted, but ended with a...
