Prime Video has announced that we will get our first look at some footage from the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tomorrow when the first teaser trailer is released online.
Production has been underway since late 2022 at Bray Studios, just outside London. Season 1 was shot in New Zealand, but the decision was made to change-up location because The UK is "considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub."
The first season concluded with the reveal that the seemingly benevolent Halbrand was actually Sauron all along. The Dark Lord offered Galadriel the chance to join him once his ruse was discovered, and when she refused, he fled back to the Southlands (soon to be known as Mordor).
It was also heavily implied that "The Stranger" was really Gandalf, but this is yet to be confirmed by actor Daniel Weyman or the showrunners.

Initially played by Joseph Mawle, Adar will be played by Sam Hazeldine in The Rings of Power season 2, instead.

I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Then again, nobody needs to have the foresight of Galadriel to have caught wind of the latest round of rumors and speculation running rampant among "The Lord of the Rings" fans in recent weeks. While the obsessive fandom waits for more movies to arrive down the line, we at least have Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" series to keep us occupied in the meantime. But no matter how far removed we are from a first season that attracted all sorts of discourse in late 2022, from theories about the mysterious Stranger's identity to the guessing game surrounding the reveal of the Dark Lord Sauron, that hasn't stopped many from attempting to read the pipeweed anyway and make their best guess about which major figures from author J.R.R. Tolkien's lore might appear next.

Nori and Poppy, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s dynamic Harfoot duo, were best friends who stuck by each other no matter what. That’s why it was so surprising in the Season 1 finale when Poppy stayed with their caravan cohorts rather than join Nori and the Stranger on their new adventure in search of that constellation from Sadoc’s map.
“I was also surprised as a person reading it in the script,” Markella Kavenagh, who plays Nori, tells TVLine.

Season 1 of the generally well-received "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series came to an epic and satisfying end exactly two months ago, but fans of the sprawling and large-scale production knew that they would have to settle in for quite a long wait before seeing where the adventure took all our favorite heroes and villains next. We know that all the surviving cast of characters, from Morfyyd Clark's Galadriel to Robert Aramayo's Elrond to Markella Kavenagh's Nori to Charlie Vickers' Sauron, will be back for another round (although with one notable recasting). Ditto for a batch of new actors who will be joining the fray, setting up an even bigger storyline to come in season 2. But what about the creative team behind the camera?

Is there any image in J.R.R. Tolkien's land of Middle-earth that's more famous than a big old pair of hobbit feet? Well, sure, there's the one ring itself, but that powerful relic isn't nearly as endearing as the fuzzy-footed group of heroes who end up saving the world from its dark magic.
When Tolkien dreamed up "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Hobbit," and their accompanying texts, he described a people whose most noticeable feature -- other than their diminutive size -- was their hairy feet. Little did he know, those initial descriptions would lead to some creative movie magic decades down the line.
Despite a twenty-year gap between productions, the prosthetic feet for Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the new Prime Video series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" were actually designed by the same person, the show's head of prosthetics Jamie Wilson.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has completed its first season, and production on season 2 is currently underway. In the Prime Video series, we meet the Harfoots, the precursors to the Hobbits from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The Harfoots are the heart and soul of the show and of Middle-earth. Unlike the Hobbits we meet thousands of years later in the Third Age, the Harfoots are travelers who are constantly on the move. Despite this, they still stick with their small communities.
One Harfoot, however — Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) — has an adventurous spirit, much like her future counterpart Frodo Baggins. In season 1, she and her friend Poppy (Megan Richards) come upon a mysterious Stranger (Daniel Weyman) who has shot to the earth in what appears to be a comet. Nori strikes up a relationship with the Stranger, and by the end of the season, the two...

The great fantasy show face-off of 2022 ended weeks ago, with Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" and HBO's "House of the Dragon" each concluding their first season in October. However, we're still talking about both shows and how their streaming numbers matched up, among other things. Ratings don't mean as much, of course, when you're a franchise prequel with a built-in fanbase and a second season that has already been written and already began filming even before the first season concluded.
"The Rings of Power" was actually renewed as far back as 2019, and Prime Video invested almost half a billion dollars in the first season alone, so its immediate future was never in doubt. This put the show's writers in the unique position of not having to wonder whether they would be able to continue the story beyond the first season.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has decided on its strategy for the upcoming winter awards shows, Gold Derby has learned exclusively. (See the cast category submissions below.) Amazon Prime Video’s prequel series, which is based on “The Lord of the Rings” and appendices by J. R. R. Tolkien and is developed by J. D. From the moment Daniel Weyman as "The Stranger" came plummeting down to Middle-earth at the end of the series premiere for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," viewers have suspected he's actually Gandalf. And why wouldn't they? Sure, The Stranger is younger-looking than we're used to seeing our favorite pipe weed-smoking wizard, and he's far more uncertain of himself (not to mention tolerant of halfling shenanigans), but it's only to be expected. After all, he's still clearly getting used to the whole being human thing.
The "Rings of Power" season 1 finale seemed to confirm what many of us had assumed all along, affirming that The Stranger is a force for good and an intimidating spell caster when he needs to be — and let us not forget that he, like Gandalf, seems to have a thing for moths (said with no judgment). But no, there's nary a point...

There's been a longstanding debate, before even the first episode of Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings" prequel series aired: Is "The Rings of Power" Tolkien enough? J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" is a masterstroke of high fantasy writing, a cornerstone of the genre, a paragon of world-building, and one of the most wildly influential series of all time. Most of, if not all, contemporary fantasy series owe a great deal to Tolkien, whose influence can be seen in everything from "Game of Thrones," to Hayao Miyazaki films, to "Harry Potter." His contribution to literature and pop culture is undeniable. But, depending on who you ask, the definition of what makes something Tolkien-esque changes.
Is it Tolkien's ardent environmentalism? His real-world experiences in war which left him processing his trauma through a quietly cynical fantasy saga? His academic approach to world-building? And if so, why did "The...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 finale, “Alloyed.”] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finale confirmed The Stranger is a Wizard, but is The Stranger Gandalf? The episode implied as much when Daniel Weyman‘s character told Markella Kavenagh‘s, “When in doubt, Elanor Brandyfoot, follow your nose.” That line is a paraphrased version of one of Ian McKellen‘s in The Fellowship of the Ring. While it would be exciting to have Gandalf in Rings of Power (because who doesn’t love Gandalf?), he doesn’t come to Middle-earth until the Third Age in Tolkien lore. The five Istari — leader Saruman the White, Gandalf, Radagast the Brown, and two Blue Wizards — come to the land from Valinor in the Third Age to help fight the threat of Sauron. There is Tolkien text that says the Blue Wizards, Alatar and Pallando, were in...

Writers — they're just like us! If you thought we fans were the only ones getting all caught up in our feelings while watching these larger-than-life stories on such an unimaginably wide canvas, think again. "The Lord of the Rings" has always boasted a sincere streak that tugs right at the heartstrings of its fans, revealing author J.R.R. Tolkien as something of a softie when it comes to fantastical adventures, the power of friendship, and the nostalgic comforts of home. The symbolic representation of these ideas have traditionally come courtesy of the hobbits, the home-loving little folk with big feet and even bigger hearts. Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, and all the rest may be completely different characters, but they all share many of the same qualities that make them so easy to root for and identify with.

This post contains spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" concluded its first season with a heart-thumping finale, while managing to bring stray narrative threads together in a satisfying fashion. A lot of big reveals took place, confirming flaming hot fan theories: Halbrand is Sauron! The Stranger is Gandalf! ... and so on. Apart from this, we saw the forging of the Elven rings of power, Galadriel being faced with irresistible temptation, and Sauron straight up walking into Mordor. While the "Rings of Power" finale is a feast, I would like to talk about the implications of an important location mentioned in the episode: Rhûn, or the Eastlands.
The episode opens with a fake-out when the Cult of Melkor approaches The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and hails him as Sauron. The group tells him that a veil prevents him from understanding who he truly is,...

Gandalf the Grey has been around for a long time. Long before he met Frodo Baggins, or even Bilbo, J.R.R. Tolkien's works say he was created as a Maiar, a celestial-like being that forged the earth before the First Age. Yet the author's texts only give us the specifics of Gandalf's history during the Third Age. So what was he doing before that? Why, hanging out with more hobbits and halflings, of course.

"Better Call Saul" skirted this issue slightly by being both a prequel and a black-and-white sequel at the same time. "The Rings of Power" has done it by finding ample...

Endings: they're tough! Ask plenty of "Lord of the Rings" fans and they'll say that "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" had a perfect conclusion. But whenever I hear that, I think, "Which one?!" The film trilogy famously didn't seem to know how to say goodbye to the characters we'd grown to love so much, so it tacked on not one or two but at least four endings, if not more. The emotions of that trilogy's ending hit like waves, crashing into you one after another. This week's finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," on the other hand, kept its most emotional moment short and sweet – but it still hit like a tidal wave.
There were plenty of moments to love in "Alloyed," from the tricky, trippy, memory-hopping scenes between Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Sauron (Charlie Vickers) to the cheer-worthy moment when...

This post contains spoilers for the first season finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Early in “Alloyed,” the concluding chapter to Season One of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, engineer Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) studies a tiny sample of mithril, the magical mineral that could potentially save the whole elven race, if only he had enough of it. “If only,” he wonders, “there was some way of doing more with less.”

In The Rings of Power season finale, the young Harfoot Nori (Markella Kavenagh) and the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) are reunited. She and her Harfoot clan arrive in the Greenwood just in time to save him from the three evil mystics who believe the Stranger is Sauron. The sisters help him regain some memories and his ability to speak before realizing much too late that the Stranger is not their Dark Lord at all, but rather “the other, the Istar.”
The Stranger translates Istar as “the wise one” or “wizard,” and that is essentially what an Istar is. Istari are Maiar spirits sent to Middle-earth to aid the denizens of Middle-earth in the fight against Sauron. However, there are rules to what they can and can’t do. This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
After saving the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) from the mysterious hooded sisters in The Rings of Power season finale, the young Harfoot Nori (Markella Kavenagh) decides to leave her clan and journey with the Stranger to Rhûn. Even though they only have the Stranger’s constellation of stars and sense of smell to guide them, they set out to the mysterious land to learn more about who he is and his destiny in Middle-earth.
Rhûn, also known as the East or the Eastlands, encompasses all land east of Rhovanion and even Mordor. It is said that factions of Elves, Dwarves, and Men all awoke in Rhûn during the early days of Middle-earth before moving west and forming the cities and kingdoms of the First and Second Age. Some Elves, Dwarves, and Men, however, stayed behind in the east.

If the first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" strayed too far from J.R.R. Tolkien's gospels for you (and you're not a racist or a troll), it sounds like some good news is on the horizon: Season 2 of the series is already in development, and it's set to hew more closely to the author's vast canon than the first eight episodes.
This promise of more canon-compliance comes straight from showrunner Patrick McKay, who stopped by The Official Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Podcast to talk about the finale and what's still to come for the massive series, which already has a multi-season plan mapped out. Host Felicia Day spoke with McKay and co-showrunner J.D. Payne about season 2, and McKay revealed that it will pull more directly from the texts.

(Warning: Spoilers follow for the season 1 finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.")
The season finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" proved that, even in its darkest moments, the series will look to the light for hope. This is especially true when it comes to the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and the harfoots. Although a chunk of the story is relegated to finding out his true identity, the finale focuses on the friendship between the wizard and the halflings. As the Stranger chooses to be good in a world dictating he is evil, we see his harfoot friends fight at his side to keep it that way. But how do the halflings decide to help their (very) powerful friend? Well, by throwing rocks at the villains, of course.
Not only is the moment in question a great act of bravery by the harfoots,...

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power"'s first season features a pretty huge mystery that it finally reveals the answer to in the season finale. The first episode ends with a giant meteor sailing over Middle-earth and landing not far from where the Harfoots have made their camp. Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) and her friend Poppy Proudfellow (Megan Richards) travel to the site where the meteor crashed out of curiosity. There, they're met with a strange sight: at the center of the broken flaming meteor is a very tall man, played by Daniel Weyman.

Spoilers follow for the eighth episode of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
The season finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is finally upon us, and with it came a bevy of reveals that set up an even more daring future for the series. The twists and turns in the story were not that far off from expectations, but it was still surreal to see them come to fruition. And we're not the only ones who had to wait until the finale to find everything, too. One of the actors behind the biggest reveal of the series had no idea who they are playing before filming this week's finale.
A major point of contention since the very first episode has been the true identity of the Stranger (Daniel Weyman). We've had our fair share of theories about him, but none had been confirmed until now.

The first season of “The Rings of Power” has officially come to a close with an “unexpected” finale as the “Lord of the Rings” prequel series explores the lives and events that took place thousands of years before J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy of books (and subsequent films). And along the way, audiences learned how Mordor was created, that the elves were in danger of dying, and there were plenty of signs that evil was, in fact, reemerging.
As showrunner Patrick McKay previously teased to Et, “Some mysteries may be answered, so answers may provoke new mysteries.” And that’s exactly what the final episode of the season does, making good on those “several big booms” he promised were coming later in the season.
Not only that, but Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Charlie Vickers (Halbrand) and Benjamin Walker (High King Gil-galad) react to the revelations offered in episode eight, including...

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 1 finale, “Alloyed.”]
There were a few cards that “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” hadn’t really played yet. It’s a show that has largely stayed strong on its own merits, even when tossing in some nods to the entry point that a majority of viewers are most familiar with.
On some level, the identities of Sauron and Stranger were going to consume everything else in this season finale like a supernova. That’s partly due to the slow-plays and misdirects that have been built into the season to this point, and it’s also a symptom of how genre TV gets absorbed now. Regardless of the reason, “Rings of Power” was a little less coy at the close of Season 1.

“Season 2 is fundamentally different in that our main villain is out and about, and doing his thing,” The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power executive producer Lindsey Weber reveals of what’s coming in Amazon Prime Video’s next installment of its J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation. “I think in some ways, it’s going to grittier, more intense, maybe a little scarier,” the EP adds.
That villain is of course Sauron, and the just released Season 1 finale unveiled would-be blacksmith and King of the Southlands Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) to be the deposed Dark Lord himself.

Of all the possible outcomes facing Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” the one I didn’t see coming is that I’d end up feeling a need to defend it. Basically, everything about the show’s production (i.e. a behemoth corporation spending unfathomable amounts of money on a blatant IP grab for a streaming service on the edge of relevance) represents everything I’ve come to loathe about the entertainment industry. The age of TV reboots seems almost quaint now, in this era of endless prequels and sequels to spinoffs of franchises. As the most expensive television series of all time (all! time!), “The Rings of Power” should by all rights be Enemy No. 1.

After spending several weeks in the Second Age of Middle-earth, it’s time for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 to come to an end. The Amazon Prime Video series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novels and their appendices has once again introduced an evil force to Middle-earth that challenges the worlds of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and even Harfoots.
Based on the trailer for The Rings of Power episode 8 released at New York Comic Con, rumors of Sauron’s reappearance have not been greatly exaggerated. After weeks of theories about which character is actually Sauron in disguise, it seems as though his true identity (identities?) will finally be revealed in the season finale.

Throughout history, societies have told each other stories through song. Often, those ditties were the only way these stories could be passed down and remembered. There were drinking songs, sea shanties, songs to pass the time, songs to walk by, and songs to lift the heart. There is something about communal singing that lets us be a part of a group, sharing in something we know and love. Songs can keep the beat that soldiers march to or traveling groups walk to. They mourn those who have passed or brighten up a day with a funny twist.
J.R.R. Tolkien was a scholar of mythology and history and liberally seasoned his writings with songs. We've heard some of them in "The Hobbit" trilogy, and even a few in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Who could forget the song Aragorn sings at his coronation? Go watch it right now and try...

This might seem like an odd question to raise so late in this first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," but have you ever asked yourself why exactly this story is being told as a streaming series instead of a movie? The practical answer, of course, goes back to the parameters of the rights that Amazon Studios originally purchased. But creatively speaking, what is it about the sprawling tale of Galadriel (Morfyyd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Adar (Joseph Mawle) and his war in the Southlands, the harfoots, and all the rest that lends itself to episodic adventures as opposed to another series of big-screen epics?

It’s official: Amazon’s The Rings of Power has started filming its next season.
Production got underway on Monday at the new hub at Bray Studios just outside London.
The news follows the first official Nielsen ratings being released Thursday for the Prime Video series, showing The Rings of Power topped the streaming charts for its debut week with 1.3 billion minutes viewed (likely an Amazon series record given that only two hours were released).
The first season of the show was filmed in New Zealand over an epic stretch of 18 months during the pandemic. For season 2, which will consist of eight episodes, Amazon switched the show’s production to the U.K., which is considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub.
The Rings of Power is approaching its seventh and penultimate episode of its debut season this week.

A central story thread in Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) quest to purge the evil Sauron from Middle Earth. The tale takes place during the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings, where most inhabitants of the continent believe Sauron to be dead. Anyone who has seen or read “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy knows that Sauron has not been defeated yet, and will indeed rise to power again.
With the Dark Lord in hiding during the Second Age, the series has been dropping plenty of hints that we have already seen Sauron on our screens. Tolkien describes Sauron as taking on a “fair” form during this age, allowing him to go unnoticed as he regains power. The following characters are the most compelling Sauron suspects, listed from most to least likely.

Amidst a record-breaking budget and sky-high expectations, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has managed to be a love letter to J. R. R. Tolkien's work that paves its own road to adapting the grandest parts of the canon. Moreover, in terms of its visual coherence, the series is a distant relative to Peter Jackson's original trilogy. It feels like it inherently belongs in that rich fantasy world dreamed up by the beloved author, while also adhering to what worked in live-action adaptations.
But what makes something Tolkien-esque? Is it epic battles and high-fantasy action? Or is it something more thematic in purpose, but equally all-encompassing in scale? There's one thing that manages to encapsulate all of these: the trees in "The Rings of Power," of course.

This post contains spoilers for episode 5 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
The slow-burn nature of "Partings," episode 5 of "The Rings of Power," allows the series to ramp up tensions across Middle-earth, as loyalties are tested on the eve of a dark time. The episode opens with The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and Nori (Markella Kavenagh) having a somber conversation (with Nori doing most of the talking) about good and evil. The identity of The Stranger is one of the core mysteries of the show, as we aren't quite sure whether he's a force of good or evil, but he currently seems capable of both. We cut to the crash site of the Meteor Man, where we see white-robed, hooded figures looking on ominously. Who are these folks?

Last week’s instalment of The Rings of Power threw up some key questions: Would Halbrand break his oath by joining Galadriel’s voyage to the Southlands? Could young Theo resist the pull of Sauron’s blade? And what’s the significance of the dwarves mining Mithril? We’ve got answers to all of that and more this week, and there was still time to catch up with the Harfoots, too. They even sang us a song! Let’s take a look at where things stand after fifth episode, “Partings”…
The Harfoots are back, with a song in their hearts and wolves on their tail
We start this week with the Harfoots on the road again. After a quick breather so that Nori (Markella Kavenagh) can teach The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) about their migratory habits, we follow the creatures’ travels through the sort of montage...

Five episodes into "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," we're now officially more than halfway through the deliberately-paced season and many viewers still find themselves struggling with the idea of what an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien should "feel" like. Nobody can ever really define what such a subjective statement actually means, of course, especially since material as well-known as this comes with such a broad range of appeal among so many different demographics. But I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the opening of episode 5, titled "Partings," immediately sets the tone for a far more coherent hour than last week's scattershot episode and lives up to much of what fans would consider quintessential Tolkien.
After a quiet but foreboding conversation between Nori (Markella Kavenagh) and the Stranger (Daniel Weyman), where the almost childlike amnesiac expresses doubt over whether he's actually good or not (Rip those poor fireflies!

Amazon Prime’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is keeping viewers on their toes each week by dropping clues to several ongoing mysteries. None are more intriguing than the secret identity of the man known only as “The Stranger.”
The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) blasts through the skies of Middle Earth on a meteor before crash landing and being discovered by a Harfoot named Nori (Markella Kavenagh). Little is known about this man. He can barely speak, appears disoriented, and demonstrates a clear connection with magic. The show has dropped several breadcrumbs as to the man’s true identity. Using information from “The Lord of the Rings” author J.R.R. Tolkien’s descriptions of Middle Earth lore, we can piece those clues together to form a small list of suspects.
