Ryan Murphy revealed a number of new upcoming projects he has in the works for Netflix, including a series adaptation of “A Chorus Line” and a limited series biopic about the designer Halston starring Ewan McGregor.
He is also developing several documentary series, including one about a lesbian couple who came out in their 80s and another, a 10-part project about Andy Warhol. The new projects were announced in a Time cover story about Murphy on Tuesday.
In addition, the story also revealed that Holland Taylor and Patti LuPone have been tapped to star in the series “Hollywood,” which he describes as a love-letter to Old Hollywood, and that Murphy has plans to re-team with “American Horror Story” star Jessica Lange on a project about the legendary actress Marlene Dietrich.
The new projects come on top of what is already a hefty workload for the prolific producer. In addition to his existing series at FX and Fox (“9-1-1” and the upcoming Rob Lowe-led spinoff “Lone Star”), Murphy is also set to launch two new projects at Netflix, the “Election”-esque high school dramedy “The Politician” and the “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” prequel “Ratched” starring Sarah Paulson.
On the film side, he is also set to direct an adaptation of “The Boys in the Band” with its original Broadway cast and produce an adaptation of the musical “The Prom” starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Ariana Grande, Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells.
