‘Meet the Blacks 2’ Scares Up a Major First Weekend at the Specialty Box Office
Amidst a specialty box office chart that otherwise remained relatively static — including a top five for the calendar year that is unchanged from the previous week — a new contender is scaring up some big numbers: Deon Taylor’s “The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2,” released through his own Hidden Empire Film Group, debuted in 420 theaters last Friday and has already earned $1,064,000 in just its first three days at the box office.

In its opening week, the sequel notched a number of wins: it’s the number-one comedy in North America, the highest-grossing new independent film release, and it boasts the biggest opening for a feature film in less than 1,000 locations since most theaters temporarily closed in March 2020.
