This movie is possibly the best example of cinematic allegory that I have seen. It functions well as the literal story of a single conservative couple and a young liberal. It also represents the paternalistic attitude of the Argentine military junta of the era in deciding what was appropriate or not for their citizenry. Finally, the contest between generations and attitudes represents the struggle between good and evil, old and new. Nor did the allegory appear to me to be heavy-handed, although other opinions might differ.
