Review of Ultrà

Ultrà (1991)

How far would you go for your team?
24 March 2003
One of only 3 films to look into the world of organised soccer violence. The film looks at a fanatical group of AS Roma supporters and the tragic and violent events leading upto their away game at hated rivals Juventus. Italian hooligan gangs or Ultras are among the most organised and violent in europe and this film sheds light onto their passions and why they do what they do. We see that their lives revolve entirely around the Sunday match and have dedicated their lives to their teams cause. We see the dead end lives they live outside the group and we see what the passion of the game and the togetherness of the group gives them. OK some of the fight scenes do seem a little staged and the fashions are very much outdated but this still gives a insight into the fanaticism that follows European soccer.
