I just finished watching "The Crying Game" again for about the fifth time. I saw it about 10 years ago after someone had told me all about it. I deliberately took a friend to see it in the theater to see her reaction. And her reaction was "Well, I thought "she" was sort of attractive but they could have got someone better" until she realized the truth, and then was somewhat in a state of disbelief.
Alot of things appeal to me about this film - the true friendship with Fergus and Jody, the enchanting accents, the humor, although it is very, very dry.
I think it is quite witty in dialogue, has enough drama and action to satisfy alot of people. It will either totally involve you or leave you cold, I think.
It is a thoughtful, strange movie by Neil Jordan, whose movies I never fail to enjoy.
I think I would have to call it the strangest "love story" one could imagine. Certainly most unusual and not forgettable at all. 9 out of 10 stars.
