I saw the film, once, at FILMEX (the old L.A. film festival) in 1975. It struck me as strongly as Kurosawa's IKIRU in it's analysis of a man's awareness of his impending death. Why this film is not available on tape or DVD...and why it is not more widely known among Japanese art films is a complete mystery to me - as mysterious and disturbing as the film itself.
