Hanging Up (2000)
Meg Ryan gives a powerful performance
30 September 2003
This film ahs been accused of being predictable, with Matthau being the dying elderly father, needing someone to care for him.

Meg is the only one of three sisters who is even interested in his condition. Kudrow and Keaton do a great job of portraying self centered, sinfully career minded people. Meg (Eve) is just as occupied, but takes the initiative to help out 'ol Dad. It is maddening as Eve is abused by her uncaring sisters and blown off at the same time (Kudrow leaving her dog with her, unannounced) and yet she keeps her sweet way. It is a treat to see Meg's performance when one of her sisters crosses the final line. Yes, it is a predictable film, but most (if not all) comedies are, aren't they? Meg's performance shows us once again how she can handle the heavy duty roles she deserves to get. Keaton also directed this project, and did a great job of showing how saturated we are with busy busy busy. Constant distraction is displayed well.
