Worth Seeing if you like dancing
3 December 2000
This was a surprisingly good film. The plot and characters were believable, though somewhat formulaic. The rest was so well executed I didn't care about that. I was impressed that the director got such good performances out of dancers who don't have acting experience. The more seasoned actors/actresses gave a boost in quality that improved the overall effort quite a bit, especially Debra Monk who played Maureen's mother.

All the flaws aside - which really are comparatively minor - the film was a superb portrayal of the world of dance and those who aspire to a professional career. The hard work, the sacrifices, the competitiveness and sometimes isolation are all part of the process so wonderfully done here. The dancing is quite excellent in many parts and is worth the price alone.
