Swimming Pool (2003)
7/10
Deliberate but intriguing movie stolen by luscious Ludivine
19 March 2004
Heard much about this film - rented the DVD & was not disappointed. The story moves slowly at the beginning, but picks up steam as Charlotte Rampling (in a fine performance) writes / vacations in France, where she becomes entangled in the life of Julie (Ludivine Sagnier). Definitely has a slow-paced, European vibe but the story picks up steam & becomes quite engaging, with excellent twists toward the end. But the real story is Sagnier, who is breathtaking on-screen (as she frolicks about, having affairs w/ older men, walking around topless & in bikinis, being sexy-tough but vulnerable) and is the embodiment of youthful sex appeal. You can't take your eyes off of her (or her golden brown skin) whenever she's on-screen (yes, that great movie poster is of her). The combination of her magnificence & a good, well-acted story makes this one worth seeing.
