The main stars of movies today are the special effects. Golem is the most talked about topic from The Two Towers and as well as Jar Jar from the new Star Wars films. No one talks about Nick Nolte's fine acting in the Hulk (only how unrealistic the creature looked). But Depp was able to upstage the CGI-undead-pirates with great ease. What Depp has done is short of a miracle. If Depp doesn't win an oscar for his ability to wow audiences away from the dazzling synthespians then no one deserves the award.
