It Works
21 May 2003
I saw this in my English class yesterday. Our teacher had bought a DVD from the director. We had just seen a typical Emily Dickenson documentary in preparation. This one was much better. It is very self conscious with the director doing voice over about making it and justifying every scene. This, however is not a bad thing. It allows one to see better what a mysterious character she is if a film about her can't even decide how to tell her story. There are some very clever devices used, like the auditioning actresses, psychoanalysts, and tattooed man. All in all it is very interesting, well-done, and also informative. I liked it.
