You're going to read this a lot if you read reviews for Returner, because it's true. It is derivative of Terminator, The Matrix (yes, bullet time and all that began with the Japanese, but this seems sooooo Matrix-y) and ET: The Extra Terrestrial.
However, Milly (Ann Suzuki) is very good, mixing the right amount of tomboyishness, cuteness and toughness. I say her career is promising. Takeshi Kaneshiro is a good actor, but he's actually plays sidekick to Suzuki. Goro Kishitani plays his part right as a soulless, menacing gangster. Damn, he loves to shoot people!
I say this is a good rental, but not much else. Please watch it to the end, and then formulate your opinion. The final scene was a very nice touch.
