Creepy and scary - jumped straight into my 5 favourite shorts
14 December 2002
A young New Zealander has bought a rural home and is fixing it up. He takes delivery of an old set of French doors and easily fits them in his home. He awakens in the morning to a beautiful sunny day, however the room with the French doors is dark and outside is pitch black. When he goes into his kitchen and looks out he only sees daylight but outside viewed through his doors is pitch black. He ventures outside with a lamp to find the meaning of this dark view.

Simple idea wonderfully done. What can I say about this without taking away from it's shock and it's sheer sense of unease. The plot is as simple as I've described above and it's over far too quickly. The idea is wonderful and the direction created such unease within me that the actual pay off was both scary and very unnerving.

The cast are good as I totally bought the guy as a normal guy and not an actor acting scared. My only complaint is `would he really have gone out those doors'? man - I would have rung all my friends to come over and would have stayed outside in the light till they were all there!

I can't say no more about this as it's strength is you being unsure where it's going. However even when you've seen it twice or so, the air of creepiness is still worth experiencing again.
