Review of CSI: Miami

CSI: Miami (2002–2012)
6/10
It's perfectly alright.
7 November 2004
CSI: Miami may never compare to the greatness of its predecessor, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation but all in all, it's still a great show. Engaging and definitely not humourless, it's a perfect spin-off. Things in Miami are definitely not the same in Las Vegas so don't expect the same things.

Like Gil Grissom, David Caruso's character Horatio Caine is somewhat aloof but still extremely perceptive of the things around him. Although I have no problem with David playing the role, he doesn't exude the sense of warmness that I feel when I watch William L. Peterson.

But the other actors are great to watch, especially Emily Procter in her role as Calleigh Duquesne, the bubbly street-smart ballistics expert. She gives this show its balanced dose of quirkiness the same way Jorja Fox does in her role of Sara in CSI.

The story lines are incredibly solid and delivered with precision. Unlike CSI, we slowly learn a bit more about each character's personal life making them much more realistic to me. Calleigh's childhood was explored and so was Horatio's past. I find it great that the show is becoming well-rounded. A show of emotion is also not a foreign concept in Miami.

I will never forget this scene of Khandi Alexander's character, Alexx, reading her children a bedtime story while barely keeping it together. Might not sound like much but it was hard-hitting.

All in all, it's alright. You might not enjoy it as much as the original but then again, who knows? You might.
