A Family Favourite
8 November 2004
The promotion for this fabulous little movie let it down. The ads certainly didn't convince me it would be worth seeing but my son wanted to see it so away we went, and went and went and went. That's right, four times over the summer and circled the DVD release date on the calender.

First, the score: fabulous score and songs with fabulous singers to sing them. kd lang, Bonnie Raite, Tim McGraw. I don't know which song I like the best - the upbeat "Patch of Heaven" or the moving "Will the Sun Ever Shine Again".

The cast: Roseanne and Jennifer Tilly, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Judi Dench and Randy Quaid - perfect. Some really funny lines and situations.

The combination of animation and humor put me in mind of personal favourites "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Pecos Bill" - quite cheeky. There's even a little tip of the hat to Edward G. Robinson.

Oh, did I mention the soundtrack? Get the cd, it's wonderful.

The movie is fun, has some touching moments and doesn't drag its story out the way filmmakers like to do nowadays. Thoroughly enjoyable, and did I mention the soundtrack?
