The Old Man and the Sea (1990 TV Movie)
it is not the best. SPOILER!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Warning Spoilers! This movie was very bad. In my high school English class no one liked it. The movie went by a lot quicker than the book (fortunately). The new parts in the movie (the old man had a daughter, having Ernest Hemingway and his wife in the 'plot', and having a flashback of his little dinky wedding) didn't really help the story line get any more interesting. It just helped the movie to be a little bit longer. Without the new parts this would be a 15 minute movie tops. I'm not saying the movie was the worst movie ever it just could have been a lot better. If you watch the movie it does help you see how hard the old man was struggling to catch the marlin. (Oh, and the fish looks very fake.) So that gives you some type of a visual aid. Other than that the movie graphics are horrible like (The Space Odyssey: 2001). For example when Santiago is out on the sea the background looks like the background you put up for when you are about to take those little shabby school pictures. In the story his boat is suppose to be a 'long skiff', in the movie it is like 4 feet long. The 'fight' between him was not really that convincing but when he cut his hand that was a little convincing. The actors in the story were not that good. Santiago is the whitest white man I have ever seen. He is too chubby, and too pale to be Cuban. His accent stood out because other than him and his daughter everyone else pretty much sounded Cuban. His daughter by far is the worst actor in the movie. I think she was the worst actress because she had no real good emotion and she was very boring. But maybe she seemed so boring because the movie was so boring. Plus, I think she looked like a man. So this movie (to me) is not that good. I give it 3 out of 10 stars.
