Not too bad, worth a viewing

After all the bad reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It certainly has its faults, notably the poor time lines. As another reviewer said, the hippie/band ('66) and Vietnam demonstration ('67) time lines are two or three years ahead of reality. And given that a number of the cast meet their end (but not seen in the movie), it was a little depressing, but no doubt quite realistic that one died in a car crash and two in Vietnam. The movie never resolved whether Toad was "missing in action" as a result blowing himself up, or simply disappeared when he deserted. On the up side, it was good to see the whole cast, less Harrison Ford and Dreyfus, although I could have sworn that the motorcycle cop calling himself Falfa was Harrison Ford. The interaction between Mackenzie Philips and Paul Le Mat was only about 30 seconds of the movie, but one of the highlights. It recreated their brother/sister relationship from the original movie perfectly. The teasing was there, but they were true friends. Bo Hopkins' character "Pharoah Joe" should have been more developed. His end was sudden and poorly written. We at least expected more of a reaction from Toad, but none was forthcoming. Overall, I enjoyed the movie, mostly because we got a chance to see more of the original cast, after only seeing them for one night in the original movie.
