In one word: awful
29 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I had big expectations about this movie, because one of Hungary's most successful humorists, János Gálvölgyi plays in it uncle Dodi. He plays very rarely in movies, so I thought, this one will be special. It's not. It's the worst ghetto-movie I have ever seen. It could have been exciting and interesting, but it's not. The story steals everything from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. There are two rival gang in the 8. precinct (which one is always illustrated as the district, where the crime is the law, there are gangsters everywhere, it's not safe there even by day , etc.), the first gang is the gypsy gang, the other one is the newly arrived Chinese gang. Of course they begin to fight each other for the territory, while the relative of uncle Dodi falls in love with the young girl from the Chinese gang. The movie is totally awful, this first film from Gábor Oláh J. is a big miss. The entire film isn't funny in any way, but it tries to be (or not?). Nothing happens in a big time, while the stupid love story develops. The violence comes absolutely unsuspectingly in big doses, when for example the two mob kills the Chinese salesman, or when András "I drive only when I'm drunk" Stohl, (who plays a very-very bad guy, who is always watch his own interest, how original) one of Hungary's most anti-talented ham actors, kills uncle Dodi with smashing his head into the glass table. Of course, the evil underworld mafia leader uncle Dodi becomes a good person, when he doesn't betray his relative. How sadly dead... The entire movie is boring, stupid, and the audience didn't like it. (It was a big box office fall.) So, this movie is a big disaster, don't go watching it.
