I entered the cinema expecting quite a mediocre thriller. There was actually a point when i thought that the movie was being strange for the sake of being strange. I was surprised. In my honest opinion i would have to say that THE MACHINIST is much better than MEMENTO. Don't get me wrong. MEMENTO was a fantastic film but i found THE MACHINIST more gripping. I think that Christian Bale's performance is amazing and i'm not just saying that because he lost weight for it. I thought Michael Ironside's performance was brilliant too even though he was only in it for a short while i found his character very creepy indeed. The faults don't even need mentioning. One CGI shot is very obvious but this is a trivial fault, i mean i wasn't watching the movie for fantastic CGI effects was i. Neither are you. You're watching it for the story the film is telling you and how it is delivered. There is also a part where Arnies words rang in my head "See you at the party Richter".
All in all one of the best films this year so far.
