TRUCKS is based loosely on Stephen King's short story of the same name. This same story line was used in MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE(1986), so I guess this is a cheap remake for TV. Toned down language; violence is throttled. There seems to be a lack of power...no overdrive. And trucks...dump trucks, tanker trucks, wrecker trucks, semi-trucks mysteriously take control of themselves and run amok attacking their owners and drivers. A group of people are trapped in a truck stop and it isn't Emilio Estevez to the rescue, but a more mature Timothy Busfield. Busfield tries to convince trapped vacationers, truck drivers and some good-old-boys to stay calm until a plan for a rescue is devised. Let's see...let them run out of gas, duh. How about shooting out their headlights, so they can't see where they are going. Like I said, the excitement and urgency of MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE is not here. Rounding out the cast: Brenda Bakke, Victor Cowie, Brendan Fletcher, Amy Stewart and Jonathan Barrett.
