Warning: Spoilers
I was quite eager to see this at the cinema because of the amount of good actors providing voices, and because I like computer animated films. The only problem is that I really liked it there, but when I saw the review I was really interested to see if I would change my mind and agree, and I did. Basically it is World War II, and Homing/Carrier Pidgeons deliver important military messages to the soldiers, but the vultures are becoming a problem. Small wood pigeon Valiant (Ewan McGregor) dreams of joining the Royal Homing Pidgeon Service when hearing of them recruiting, and he immediately heads for London. On the way he is joined by smelly and sneaky pigeon Bugsy (Ricky Gervais) who wants to get away from his con victims, and he soon arrives at the base to begin training with Sergeant (Jim Broadbent). They do not seem to be progressing very well, but when the most important message so far comes along in need of delivery, they are the only hope. Meanwhile, the lead villain vulture Von Talon (Tim Curry) is trying to find out loads of secrets from captured pigeon Mercury (John Cleese). Also starring Hugh Laurie as Gutsy, John Hurt as Felix, Pip Torrens as Lofty, Rik Mayall as Cufflingk, Olivia Williams as Victoria and Jonathan Ross as Big Thug. The animation is nowhere the quality of Disney/Pixar, and even though the cast does alright, especially Gervais, and there are some amusing moments, it is only these moments to bother with, the rest is boring and hardly gripping adventure. Adequate!
