In a word, this film was laughable. From the acting to the scenery to the plot, the entire film was laughable. The one death scene in the movie had me rolling on the floor in fits of hysteria. Seriously, I had to pause and rewind it was that bad. The only really likable character is the roommate played by Eliza Dushku. The main character is whiny and pathetic. Even the flashbacks are a joke. From what was read of this so-called brilliant novel, it seemed like sappy melodramatic tripe. I was however, compelled to know how it ended, which was the driving force, the point, of the movie. It gets one star for that, and one for Eliza.
