Murder so sweet
8 May 2006
The title of 'Murder so sweet' is the one on the DVD I purchased and while not as informative as the original, it does have a nice play on words as to role that ice cream plays in the plot.

A pretty standard 'made for TV' movie of the week type based on a true life incident. About on a par with others we've all seen, this just rises up a little due to the performance of the two leads. Harry Hamlin as the philandering rough diamond charmer is quite convincing as he slowly turns into a ruthless killer when his back is against the wall. And Helen Shaver as his ex-wife is good too in her role of frightened witness who knows something is very wrong but scared of the consequence of her actions in the face of her friends and family.

Somewhat overwrought at times, it holds the attention and doesn't go too overboard in the finale which is quite downbeat after what has gone before. And I suspect is more true to what actually happened in the real life scenario.

All in all, a pleasant enough watch for this genre and all comes to a satisfying conclusion as truth, justice and the American way hold sway in the land of the free. Well....sometimes.
