a movie worthy to watch
2 June 2006
Before watching the movie, I got a general brief. I thought "It is a movie about fishing and family relationship. Is it worthy us to watch?" With the movie going on, I tried to focus my mind on it, but I almost failed in the first half part because of its boring. Little by little, I went deep into it, although it is hard to be appreciated immediately. I had kept thinking and studying on it for a long time, now I have found something, something about Paul . The story took place in a little town. Two brothers, Norman and Paul, grow up with their father's lessons that had to do with religion, and the lessons of fly-fishing. In this movie fly-fishing represents life. The older brother, Norman, followed the prescribed order of his father's lessons. He went to college. After six years he returned and fell in love with a nice girl named Jessie, finally he was invited to teach in Chicago. On the contrary, the younger brother, Paul, a stubborn boy, had become a reporter and was known as the "fishing reporter". It seemed he almost had his own nice life, but his drinking and gambling destroyed himself. Paul dead in the jail just before Norman left the town. The story implies people's life style by the fly-fishing. People can choose a prescribed order life or an unconventional way. Compared with Norman's successful life, it seemed that Paul had a loser's life by choosing a special life style, and his unique fly-fishing method is the refection. From another point of view, Paul got a chance to try his life style, although his way was hard at that time. It is the spirit of individuation, the spirit can not be smashed.

Yes, it is a good movie, and worthy to watch.
