Hari Darshan (1982)
10/10
Wonderful movie bit corny though in the special effects section

Warning: Spoilers
Very much like the movie Bhakt Prahlad, this one gives a wonderful recounting of the many incarnations of Vishnu. Actually it is more complete listing all the avatars but the recounting is more as if it's performed by a bad theater-company outfitted with even worse backgrounds, props and costumes. Otherwise the movie focuses on the story of Prahlad itself.

Although the story in itself is correct, it is the actor performing as Prahlad, being 'silly' in his acting, which is slightly off-putting. Then again, there is a more lively feel to him and his friends, with the little girl, Satya, who's his first and foremost follower and friend and a young (low caste) boy, who of course becomes his best friend too.

Note should be taken that even the idea of pets are introduced with cats (or rather kittens) who are actually saved by Vishnu, when implored to do so by Prahlad. And there is a mention of Prahlad surely having been bitten by a rabid/mad dog. I found these and several other hints towards a more 'realistic' life of Prahlad besides his divinely inspired life a welcome relief.

Usually omitted, Holika plays a large part in this movie too and the actual Holika dahan is shown with Prahlad coming out victorious. There is a bit of a fourth-wall break with the song concerning the FIRST holi, cause of course they couldn't have known that it would have been the 'first' of many.

Most songs I actually remembered from more then twenty years ago and are quite enjoyable.

All in all I'd say a 10 out of 10, even with the over-the-top acting (since this was usual for that era) for people interested in Hindu mythology and not having the time to start reading the Vishnu Purana.
