Kavitha (Trisha) and Muthu Pandy's (Prabhu) mother is deserted by their father early in their childhood. Their mother dies and the children are orphaned. Muthu Pandy (Prabhu) takes care of his little sister Kavitha. Sivarama Krishna wants Kavitha to be married to a poor and hardworking man who knows the value of money.

Santosh (Jeyam Ravi) is an NRI who visits India with his mother to attend a relative's wedding. There he meets Kavitha. They fall in love. Santosh's mother does not approve this and tries to separate Santosh from Kavitha. Santosh asks Muthu Pandy's permission to marry Kavitha. Muthu Pandy refuses due to Santosh's rich background. Muthu Pandy asks Santosh to work as a laborer in his farm and gives him one acre of land and asks him to harvest it. The rest of the story is all about how Santosh wins the bet as well as the heart of Muthu Pandy.

First half of the film is entertaining and emotional. The second half has more play of emotions and less of entertainment. Well etched characters, gripping screenplay, good direction, peppy music, brilliant visuals, superb comedy make the film a treat to watch. Santhosh bowls you over with his performance while Trisha is excellent as Kavitha. Devi Sri Prasad's music is the backbone of the film. Richa Pallod, Tejashree, V M C Haneefa, Manivannan, Kalabhavan Mani and Mouli have done their parts well.
