Review of Divas

Divas (1995 TV Movie)
9/10
Those who like this genre will enjoy this 1995 made-for-TV film

Young manager and female R & B singers struggle to find success. It's apparent to all that have heard them sing that this group is special, but real life problems, and the fact that their young manager cannot get the right people to hear them keep them singing in second-rate talent shows and clubs for virtually nothing. Throw in a romantic attraction between the manager (Kain) and the newest addition to the group (Parker);a single parent (Lisa Nicole Carson) desperately needing more income;and the lead singer (Tammy Townsend)having difficulties at home largely because of her participation in the group and you have a a very beautiful and talented group of singers struggling to survive.

This made-for-TV movie features Khalil Kain (Darnell, Girlfriends) and Nicole Ari Parker (Teri, HBO Soul Food) and apparently never made it to the big screen. Bill Cobb and Clifton Powell also add their considerable talents and experience to the film's credits. Divas is a familiar tale with strong performances all-around that you might enjoy, particularly if you are a fan of this particular genre. R & B lovers will enjoy the music.
