Unsettled (2007)
8/10
If you get a chance, be sure to see this moving look at the human side of the Gaza settlement evacuations.
26 January 2007
Just saw the premiere of this incisive film at Slamdance. It is a solid, poignant look at one of the most wrenching times in the history of the Israel/Palestine conflict. It pounds home the personal anguish and tragedy of the continued violence there. The young adults who were swept along as Israel forcibly evacuated the remaining settlers in the Gaza Strip displayed both courage and commitment on both sides of the debate over the wisdom of the removal. Seeing the cast at the premiere, where they spent a week together in a Park City condo continuing to work on their differing perspectives, was a powerful and moving experience for a very responsive audience. Director Adam Hootnik has taken a classic filmmaker's risk, giving up a job at MTV to jump into the middle of this deeply human story. Let's hope the film gets a good distributor, as it should be seen here in America.
