Implausible Eavesdropping, Conduct, & Events
17 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This soap has, as have many Spanish-language ones, a lot of illogical, unrealistic attributes. One of the most annoying is too many scenes where absurd eavesdropping occurs. This malarkey detracts greatly from the soap's quality.

In fact, whether a production contains a lot of such stuff is one measure of its worthiness. The better the soap the less such garbage it contains. If memory serves, top ringers, like "Amor Real" and "Cafe con Aroma of Mujer" have little or no unrealistic eavesdropping.

So, chalk this one up with the many. It has a plethora of illogical junk: the maddening eavesdropping, lots of implausible conduct by the characters, and utterly preposterous events like Alina dying, being buried, dug up, and resuscitated a day or so later. At times, you want to scream "Hey, come on now."

As to the acting, generally, it's darn good. This is despite the weak plot and the unrealistic, illogical behaviors the actors sometimes have to portray. That makes acting more difficult. But there's one exception to this plus grade: Jose Maria Torre, as Angel, is unconvincing as a person with a terminal lung disease. His cough and supposedly weak condition is so phony. It is so much so, a viewer initially could think Angel, the character, is actually trying to feign illness.

Oops, I almost forgot this tidbit: To Pablo Montero (Emilio), the next time you get married in a soap, be sure to get your hair cut. Here, in your final nuptials with Alina, flying in the face of your regal uniform and immaculately shaved face, is your neck's ragged hairline.

To sum up: Other than Emilio and Alina's poignantly beautiful love story, this soap offers few redeeming features to make you want to endure its circular, illogical plot.

I give it a 3, a 4 at best.
