Lost Frozen Gem

Warning: Spoilers
I had never heard of this John Wayne effort, so I rented it. Good move! Wayne does an admirable job as the leader of this bedraggled crew of aviators downed in the frozen north. He manages to get across the dilemma of leadership in what seems a hopeless situation and at the same time allows his own human side to briefly show through. This movie asks the Duke to act, and he is up to the task.

Great supporting cast, especially Andy Devine in the role of a serious and responsible fellow pilot. Lloyd Nolan also shines as a matter of fact professional.

My only complaint is that you virtually never see anyone's breath, which in the sub-zero temperatures we are assured the crew is in, would seem an odd omission. But, that said, it's a Good Picture!
