As I said in the title, it started really well. It was also going along nicely in the middle period but faltered then.
An elderly Hindu lawyer, portrayed by famous Momtajuddin Ahmed, refused to go to India leaving his forefather's property in the then Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He sent his boy to India according to that boy's will, but her daughter stayed with his father and aunt near their favorite river, 'Chitra'. This river seemed to play a central part for their staying in Muslim-majority Pakistan. There were some shots involving the river, like the bathing scene of two girls, the death scene of the father etc, but I think they lacked the dramatic charm to be honest. I expected more passionate music in those scenes.
The secret love between Minu, a Hindu girl and Badal, a Muslim Boy could have been a better dramatic plot. It reached a rather anti-climax end where Badal was shot dead in Dhaka. This shooting scene also lacked dramatic and appealing suspense.
And surprisingly, when they left their homeland following the riot and the death of the lawyer, Minu (Afsana Mimi) didn't even say goodbye to her beloved river 'Chitra'. It was really disappointing. As the movie is named 'Chitra Nadir Pare' (Quiet flows the river Chitra), I was banking on to see the river playing a bit more central role in the country-leaving scene.
Everyone acted well, good choice of actors from Tanvir Mokammel made it a well-acted cinema. The introduction of the mad man throwing dialogues about whether the passers-by are coming or going was an apt thinking by the director in a movie about migration.
Afsana Mimi was looking graceful in this movie, specially in the rain-drenching scene on the rooftop. One has to give credit to the director for master-piecing a scene like that.
Overall just may be OK, but really could have been far far better. 6/10 from me.
