String Theory (I) (2007)
9/10
Art imitates life
1 February 2008
This film was playing in a festival in New York with a bunch of other comedy films that had the theme of relationships. Because it was called String Theory I thought the festival had mistakenly programmed some science film, but once the film starts you immediately realize the joke. The film follows two people on their first date. They were put together by an internet dating service so this is their first face-to-face meeting. I have done a couple of these kinds of dates and so have many of my friends, and this film completely caught the awkwardness and excitement of what is today's version of the blind date. The film uses comedy, misunderstandings and rapid dialogue to really build the two characters and their potential attraction (or lack of!). I won't ruin the ending, but suffice to say the audience was laughing at these two people and the ending led to even more hilarity. Hopefully I can see it again and look for the "clues" throughout the film.
