IFD strike again!
7 September 2008
Although most famous or perhaps more appropriately, infamous for their cut & paste ninja efforts, IFD were also far from averse to dipping their toes into other popular genres of the time. It was somewhat inevitable therefore that seeing the early success of Jean Claude Van Damme in the States with his hit films, Bloodsport and Kickboxer, Joseph Lai and co were swift to jump onto the bandwagon with a series of kickboxing themed flicks of their own. Of course, being the cheap, lazy hacks that they are however, the said films turned out to typically inept cut and paste affairs as was in keeping with the modus operandi of the company. Sounds bad eh? And indeed, bad they were! But wait......for just as with their previous ninja flicks, the films themselves more often than not turned out to be tremendously entertaining (purely by luck as opposed to judgement), precisely on account of how atrociously bad they were. Such is the case with the film in question in fact, which whilst far from the best effort to ever be released by IFD, certainly boasts enough ridiculous scenes to raise a good few laughs. Check out the hopeless script for starters; It seems that the writer/s were under the misguided impression that the best manner in which to create dramatic tension is to have your protagonists spew out as many swear words as possible in each and every sentence! Also be sure to check out the hilarious fight sequence in which our hero, Harry gets whacked around the head with a shovel (and seems no worse for wear!).....and in glorious slow motion no less! Sadly, the initial fun does admittedly wane towards the end of the flick and the inevitable final battle between the two main characters is pretty hopeless. Nonetheless, for fans of IFD and indeed, crappy movies in general, this is certainly worthy of at least a watch.
