good German classic musical
17 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I almost labeled it a Austrian musical but it was made in Germany. The story concerns a singer actress,Sylvia, on vacation with her fiancé, played by Walter muller. Well as they are riding on their horses, a gang shows up shooting at them and harassing them . This causes muller to cowardly take off causing Marika to fending for her self. She manages to fend them off. she then gets lost only to be rescue,by now the world oldest actor,Johannes Heesters a count who's in the military but is on vacation too. She's not aware of it yet. They both fall in love only later to learn that he's been engaged too. But his fiancé ,played by Jeannette Schultze, is not in love with him they were just old sweet hearts.Parents of Heesters , play by Margarete Slezak and Franz Schafheitlin, who's as old as Heesters,. His parents discover that the actress they invited to the party is the women who's interested in him. They disapprove of her Muller and Jeannette fall for each other and elope.Eventually Marika and Johannes reunite. The music mixes modern jazz with the old operetta waltz type music. One scene Marika tap dances to this mixture. the only problem is that the sound effects for the gun shooting sequence was poor. For what ever reason no shot gun sound effects were dubbed into it. This made the scene looks stupid ,making it one star less This is a new add on . A clear up of the fake cap shooting gun shot scene It seems that Bonni wanted to prove to Sylvia his love for her by setting up a gang attack . This explains the fake cap noises on the guns. He was suppose to pretend that he's fighting them off. It doesn't work out that way. Edwin is not a count but a general in the military. Staci , his fiancés and childhood sweet heart is a doctor ,I think. So this explains a little more of the picture . It,s still worth collecting and its now available in the USA on German language video center on VHS under Mieteim films,I think. Don't look under German classic its not there extra correction look under Heimat films not mieteim.
