not perfect. yet beautiful....

Warning: Spoilers
Hats off to Renjith for taking this story and making it a film. this is a movie made in memory of and 'loosely' based on the life of the late Srividya. first off this movie is not perfect, it does have its share of laughable moments of unintended humour ( and u miss none of them if you're in a tiny theatre with a raucous crowd, ie 20 people ). but through all that if you are able to pay attention to the movie and not get carried away waiting for the next wise crack, you ll enjoy a well made movie. this movie touched me on many levels.

the film is presented as a narrative and the story develops through a series of flashbacks. if you're acquainted with the stories that do the rounds in Mollywood it ll help you. i request other MOHANLAL fans like me not to be offended by the obvious references brought up to spice up the movie. 'Akki' played by Prithviraj is an up and coming director who is on the lookout for a good story for his next film. what better story than that of the 'once hot and happening' on and off-screen couple of Malavika(Priyamani) and Ajayachandran(Anoop Menon). how they fell in love, got married and drifted apart. he starts his investigation along this route and the rest of the movie is about the revelations that follow.

whoever thought of casting Priyamani in this role got it spot on. she carries this role with a maturity one would not associate with someone of her age. her talent and craft is there for all to see throughout the movie as she enacts Malavika in the various phases of her life with true conviction. she misses the beat maybe for 2 or 3 shots in the whole movie. rest of the time she is pure gold.(cant reveal more about the various phases as i am not interested in spoiling the movie for those who haven't seen it yet). she has got looks and loads of talent. looking forward to seeing her talent at work in the future. Prithviraj does a creditable job and he retains his position as best of the young guns in the industry. but Renjith does a gr8 job as Abey Kuruvilla. he slips into the role with ease. some might question the wisdom of casting Anoop Menon and he does look out of his depth in some situations and honestly this character was a bit beyond his reach. but all things considered and the present scarcity for young quality actors is taken into account, there ain't any other name that springs to the mind as an obvious replacement.

the screenplay is nice and sharp for the majority of the movie and some of those dialogues hit home(big time, for someone like me who gets emotionally involved in the movie). the direction is crafty. this is not a masterpiece but a very solid enjoyable movie for serious, quality movie lovers. it also makes you wonder - if this nasty habit of running after multiple projects at the same time could be avoided, they could have ironed out some of those mistakes and delivered a true gem.

Definitely recommended. 9/10.
