Review of Diamond Girl

Diamond Girl (1998 TV Movie)
A rather simple story of brotherly competition and the wine industry.

Warning: Spoilers
While this made-for-TV movie is simple and light, I must give it some credit. First, it is set in California's Napa Valley, a place I have visited many times. But I was fooled, thinking it was really filmed there, when in fact it was filmed in South Africa. Second the star is from England but it sure sounded like an American to me, sort of in a Billy Zane sort of way.

Jonathan Cake stars as older brother Regan Montana, the smart one, educated at Yale and having spent the past 10 years living and working in London. Dad died and they intend to sell their excellent Napa Valley land and winery to a foreign interest.

Kevin Otto is the younger brother Denny Montana, not as smart and certainly not as dedicated to his law profession as his older brother. In fact after Regan shows up it quickly becomes apparent that Canadian Joely Collins as paralegal Claire Barnard is really doing all the work in the law office.

Claire and Regan are at odds right away, seemingly completely in their likes and dislikes. In this kind of movie that usually means they will fall in love before the end of the movie.

Dyan Cannon has a small role but she is the mother of the boys, Abby Montana.

A lightweight story, but a pleasant way to kill 90 minutes.
