This review is based upon the 120 minute version, and not the cut 99 minute version. This film is also known as De Sade's Justine, Justine, and Marquis de Sade's Justine.

The sisters Justine (Koo Stark) and Juliette (Lydia Lisle in her film debut) are left in the care of nuns after their father commits suicide.

Juliette willingly embraces lessons from a lesbian nun (Malou Cartwright), while Justine fighting off rape by Mother Superior (Maggie Petersen). The witch throws them both out the next day, citing Justine's ungrateful attitude.

Juliette soon gets lessons from Lord Carlisle (Martin Potter), while Justine tries to retain her virtue. Koo Stark was perfect for this role, which called for a pious looking young woman. She is definitely the girl next door type.

They end up in a brothel in London where a relative (Ann Michelle) works. Juliette takes to her instruction with relish, but the pious Justine cannot succumb, and runs back home to the lecherous priest (Louis Ife).

The brothel scenes were were more silliness than sex.

Her stay with the priest is brief, as he comes to an ignominious end trying to rape her, but her situation doesn't improve as she falls into the hands of murderous cutthroats. These scum are so bad that one of them has sex with a woman they just killed while robbing a stage.

But, we finally get to see what so captivated Prince Andrew before his marriage to the Duchess of York.

Meanwhile, Lord Carlisle is saving Juliette from the ignominies of whoredom. He has taken her as his mistress.

He takes time to travel back to the country to find Justine and save her from the cutthroats. In the process, he deflowers her and runs away when the cutthroats return, leaving her to be raped and killed by them. He gets his just desserts.

We see the virtuous Justine is helpless to maintain that virtue in a cruel world where even you supposed friends turn out to be enemies.
