Review of Fishy

Fishy (2003)
7/10
One woman and her goldfish
8 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is a strange little tale of a lonely woman and her goldfish, I watched it because so far I've enjoyed everything that I've seen Shirley Henderson in, once again she does not disappoint bringing really feeling into a film that lasts less than ten minutes including the credits and has little dialogue.

Glenda is not a happy woman, she is unemployed, single and her only company is Freddie, her pet goldfish. It seems that the only time she goes out is when she collects her unemployment benefit and as she returns to her flat all she sees are happy couples reminding her of her loneliness. One day as she is feeding her fish she tastes a bit of his food and from that point on gets more and more fascinated by a fishy existence. She goes swimming at the local pool, she dons a yellow swimming costume and lies in the bath and eventually shrinks to the size of a goldfish a climbs into Freddie's bowl and becomes a fish. Only when it is too late does she realise that there is nobody out there to feed the two of them.

If you are a fan of Shirley Henderson's work I'd recommend watching this; if you don't like it you've only wasted ten minutes although I suspect few people won't enjoy it.
