Review of Zoey 101

Zoey 101 (2005–2008)
6/10
not too bad, but could be better

Warning: Spoilers
This show has a lot of good things about it, but also a lot of bad things. The location where it is set is extremely scenic, and I reckon thats pretty cool. The main storyline kinda drags on a bit, in fact over 4 seasons, but thats typical with this kind of show. The subplots in every episode that revolve around this main story can be pretty good though. The acting in season 1 is really bad, and I can understand why people who saw the pilot would give the show such a bad rating. However, it does get better, as the characters lose a little bit of their innocence in later seasons and mature. The biggest issue with this show is the stereotyping. This is particularly bad in the early episodes of the series, in fact all of season 1, where it is really easy to see the stereotypical geek and sports star in action. But if you watch the whole series and think about it, you will see that these stereotypes are actually challenged. I mean, Quinn and Logan start dating! I think thats a good example of where the stereotyping has been challenged. It may appear that Zoey is a little princess in the earlier seasons but the small things that you can pick up on as you keep watching, such as her actions in "Anger Management", contradict this. All in all, its an OK show. It may not be realistic but then again, half the things we see on TV these days aren't. Is it so bad for the target audience of this show to dream?
