Love is Sweet, Sacrifice is Immortal

Warning: Spoilers
I am a born Kannadiga and I used to see our films all the time. But then I gradually stopped because only old films were good and new ones were very bad. By the way, I am 20 now if you think I am an old man or something, who hates new films. Then near the end of 1st puc, my friends made a grand idea to bunk the lab and get attendance at the same time. Naturally, I joined them. What I didn't know was they had bunked to see this new movie which had run 23 days and all their elder brothers or sisters were praising it. My friends literally kidnapped me into the theatre and I had to see it. Boy do I love them for that now. Because of this film, Ganesh is my favourite actor in our films and I have seen all his films which have released till now (not Puneeth's and others though. I tried, but they weren't talented and the stories were boring. Sudeep is very talented. I like him) and bought all the original DVD's which have released. I saw this movie 4 times in the theatre and made everyone I know go to this gem of a movie.

Preetham (Ganesh) is a modern guy who has no future plans for himself and is cunningly taken to Malnad by his mother for her friend's daughter's wedding. There he meets Nandini, the girl of his dreams (love at first sight) who he had seen in a mall in Bangalore. To his immense surprise, he finds out that she is the bride and leaves because of heartache. But, Nandini jokingly challenges him to come back and win her heart. Will Preetham win over her or will she marry the other guy? The sub for the title is "Love is Sweet, Sacrifice is Immortal". So, that's the climax there only.

This isn't just another love story. This is THE love story of all time. It also has lots of symbolic references like the rain, the rabbit, the greenery, etc. This is a must-watch movie for any film lover of any language. The film has a very strong storyline. I have cried and laughed so many times while watching this, every time. The climax just blows you away. The Jog Falls songs and scenes are one of the best moments of the film. The rabbit - Devdas is one more plus point of the movie. It is a symbolic reference to Preetham's pure love. The background score and songs are the best (particularly 'Anisuthide Yaako Indu') I have heard in my life. The music and cinematography is what made the audience come to the theatres when this industry was in dire need of audiences. This movie attracted every person of all languages in the state and it ran to packed theatres for almost 300 days(!!!) before it was taken off from the theatres after 400 days! This is also the highest grossing movie ever in this industry.

I liked Ganesh a lot in 'Comedy Time' on TV. But, this made him my idol. His is a true rags to riches story. I have met him once and he is very humble and down to earth (normal guy in private, I assume), but really a very good guy. I digress. Mungaru Male was a phenomenon which even people who didn't understand the language went to the theaters in droves and admired because of the perfection with which the story was emoted. This is a true masterpiece from Yograj Bhat. A must-see movie before you die.
