It's hard to imagine that a movie like this once had the ability to land an actor an Oscar nomination. These days I think it would be almost impossible for that to happen. That doesn't take away from the fact that, yes, Tom Hanks makes the role all he can. I have come the conclusion though that Tom Hanks is just that kind of actor that can pull anything off and do it, if not outstandingly, at the very least really, really well. He shows enthusiasm and nervousness in equal measures and makes it believable that he's only a thirteen year old boy trapped in an older body, trying his best to be an adult when the reality is he is far from it. I also want to say the other actors are all fantastic, and it's a fun movie that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
