A great animated adaptation of the classic book

Warning: Spoilers
This anime series, loosely inspired in the French novel by Alexandre Dumas, "The Count of Monte Cristo" takes the story from a completely new perspective: Not only the story takes place in a distant future, but also, it shows the young Albert de Morcerf as the main character, while The Count became a mysterious, intriguing character (He still plays a very important role in the series, however, he became a somewhat more sinister character in comparison with other adaptation of the book) Yes: the result is completely different from the original book, though it is still pretty good. What is more, in some aspects, it is more faithful to the original book than other adaptations: There are some characters (Like Haydée) that are usually forgotten in many adaptations while here have a more significant role.

The animation and the designs are pretty attractive: The Photoshop textures give this series a unique, wonderful look that not many anime series had. Also, the music is pretty good and it fits very well. The characterization was great: As I said before, while some of characters have a different personality from their book counterparts, the result it's still quite good, giving us a different perspective from what we use to know.

This is one of my favorite adaptations of the novel. Even if it's a free adaptation, it is still much better than any of the film versions, specially that awful movie with James Caviezel.
